Can you help with a way to get profiles migrated from one domain to another?
We are in the process of upgrading/reinstalling all PC’s and at the same time move everyone into ONE domain..

We have worked for weeks getting it to work through Configuration Manager but as the PC’s are getting new names etc, etc. it is tiresome and we plan on a manual process in stead.

Note: We do not currently use USMTGUI or User Profile Central..

    Hi
You can always use USMT by hand as is the tool Config Manager use..
You can even do it remotely. – See a good example here at Spiceworks...

    However that is equally tiresome.

You do not mention if you talk about 50 PC’s or 5000. I’d consider just doing it manually with USMTGUI as part of the process when you reimage them. We did that on 6000 PC’s back in 2017 as part of a Domain/ Win7>Win10 migration project.

    1. Backup user profile
    2. Reinstall PC to new domain
    3. Restore user profile to new domain

    Note:
The User account MUST be present on the new domain prior to restoring, but don’t login with the user prior to restoring the profile. This is especially important if using roaming profiles 🙂
    – you can even change the account name on the new domain and target that when restoring.

    OK, Super.

One thing, what is the issue with logging in prior to restoring?

In case you use Roaming profiles and want the data placed correctly on the new domain (perhaps even from a profile backed up from a PC running an older Windows version) it will happen automatically, when restoring the profile to the Win10 PC.

Data will be placed locally but when you login the first time, and it is detected that the profile is Roaming, data will be moved to the Roaming profile on the server 😉
